They say that the kitchen is the heart of the house, and I totally agree with that. The kitchen is the center of the home, whether it is small or large. It's where food is prepared — it fuels the bodies, minds and souls of family and friends around the world. Some say, while the life in the bedroom may be created, it's certainly lived in the kitchen. Some say they agree while others don't. Something is about the warmth of food right out of the oven and says lovingly, right? It may be in the living room that people focus on cleaning when friend or relatives arrives, but the kitchen is at the heart of the house.


The kitchen is where all good smells and thoughts come from. Some people of have their best thoughts during bread kneading, baking, and cooking. The way that the kitchen calls all senses at once has such comforting things to do.

Influences on lifestyle

The size of the kitchen, the family, and lifestyles seem to depend on the importance of the area. Kitchens were smaller in older homes, separated and removed from the rest of the house. It was almost exclusively a contained space used for cooking, which could be kept to cover the mess. Family and friends would eat and gather in the nearby kitchens and living rooms. In older homes dining and living rooms were given greater importance. The kitchens were utilitarian and that's what it was all about.

All of us have remembrance of our mothers (sometimes father or both parents), who slave on a stove, work tirelessly on counter-tops, prepare delicious and nutritious meals that the family enjoyed and tasted together. Children sometimes were told to keep out of a kitchen – the workplace of their mother – so that they could cook and prepare.

In most cases children were invited to join and learn the cooking skills, the joy of cooking a family meal together and to create true memories of their lives. There are no laid back kitchens and silent rooms. They have energy, aroma and texture filled rooms. They have been designed for one purpose. It was created to be spaces of utility.

Keeping your kitchen clean all week, even if it may not be your favorite chore, is simple enough. Both major objectives for a "clean enough" kitchen are to clean up the meals and clean the counter. However, your kitchen needs to be cleaned more carefully every once in a while.

The doors and floors of the cabinets and both your large and small appliances may become grainy and grim with time, but they must not be cleaned all day long! One thing is that you clean up your eating habits, but the cleanup is another thing. We cannot help but wonder about the toxic residues in the common household cleaners – in particular in the kitchen, which prepares all our food. Some of those jobs can actually be simple and straightforward if you know the best way to do them!

So I have prepared a list of the home-makers favorite tips and cleaning tricks for everything in the kitchen and a few natural tips for cleaning up your favorite part of your home, to help you get started when you are ready to move towards a chemical - free kitchen.

Clean wood cutting boards and surfaces using citrus and salt

Regardless of whether you need a butcher block or a cutting board–it's a great, fresh lemon tactic. Simply sprinkle with coarse salt on the wood surface and scrub the surface using a half-trimmed lemon. Squeeze the lemon juice lightly as you scrub it. Let it sit, scrape and finally refill it with a clean, wet sponge for about five minutes.

To make an All-round Cleaner, use Citrus Peels

Don't throw those citrus peels away! Whether you're using limes, lemons, pome fruit or oranges, add the peels and vinegar to a large mason jar. You're going to want the jar to be half full of skins. Cover with a lid, and allow the citrus to infuse for two weeks. Put the cleaners on a bottle and use as an all-purpose cleaner; add herbs such as thyme or rosemary, if you want! After two weeks, strain the mixture into a bowl, and then throw away the peels.

Clean Your Baking Sheets using Vinegar & Baking Soda

Everyone's got a gross, brown, burnt residue at least one of those cooking sheets. However, it's easy to get it clean again. Just combine one half cup of water and one half cup of baked soda. In a plugged sink, place the baking sheet and cover with a mixture. Allow it to sit in a rougher sponge or scouring pad, for 30 minutes to an hour.

Using Baking Soda for Wooden Cabinets

Kitchen cabinet attracts oil and grease like magnets and all this disgusting accumulation can be chaotic and time-consuming to be wiped away. The best way to cut through the grate is to combine hydrogen peroxide with baking soda! Just mix 1 part of coconut oil with 2 parts of baking soda in a bowl then, apply a mix with a cloth or sponge to your cabinets, or use your hands if you prefer. I think it's easier this way to work in all nooks and crannies.

Get Rid of Those Annoying Coffee Stains

Do you have tumultuous brown stains in your coffee cups that you wish to come out? Try using baking soda: Sprinkle onto the bottom of the cup, add sufficient water to paste and scrub. In a matter of minutes the gentle abrasion of baking soda will be removed. Then, just rinse and wash as you would normally do.
